Chook Shed Snake
Phil Cummings
The picture book Chook Shed Snake is story about how a snake gets into a family chook shed and its up to the father to play the hero and get the snake out of there. The story follows the father in how he goes about trying to get the snake out of the chook shed and part way through takes a funny twist and has him getting frightened by one of the chooks pecking him on the back of the leg.
Phil Cummings has used alliteration in this book in many different ways; i.e. buzzing beetles. This could be used to introduce alliteration to the class and after reading the book students could then try and come up with their own alliterations or great-sounding expressions, i.e. massive monsters much mandarins on Mondays.
