There is a hippo on my roof eating cake

This children's book tells the story of Edward who is a hippopotamus who does what he wants including watching television and eating cake. The repetition in the book is appealing to students as they are able to learn and eventually read the passages which are the same quite easily.
To introduce a English lesson based on descriptive writing students could be asked to write outrageous sentences such as - there is a hippopotamus on our roof eating cake or there is a koala in the outside toilet making blue coffee!
