Mutt Dog!

Mutt Dog is a story about a stray dog who wanders the city trying to find food and a safe place to sleep. One day he follows a lady who also lives on the street to a halfway house. A woman who works there gives him some food and a comfy box for a bed, but in the morning she says he has to go back on the streets. Just as he is heading to go back out onto the streets the halfway house worker has a change of heart and takes him home where he finally has a place where he belongs.belongs.

This book has a very powerful theme in it, the need to belong. The likelihood of there being one or more students in a class who feel the exact same way. This book could be used in a lesson focused on inclusion, particularly on students who sit by themselves at recess and lunch. It is a good way to tackle quite a difficult problem in school yards.
