The Lorax
Dr Seuss
The Lorax is a character who speaks for the trees and particularly in this story the truffalur trees to protect them from the evil once-ler who wants to cut all the trees down in order to make money for himself. The book shows the changes which occur in the environment after the trees have been cut down and this change is supported in the images which show a clear change in color due to the trees being taken away.
This book could be used as engagement activity when teaching students the topic of environmental sustainability. The students could point out differences between the environment before the trees were chopped down and the environment after and draw their own versions based on common environments like the beach or a backyard.
