Pete the Sheep
Author: Jackie French
This children's book tells the story of a shearer named Shaun and his sheep dog 'Pete the Sheep'. To begin the book the other shearers and sheepdogs isolated both Shaun and Pete because they 'did things differently' they didn't want to be around them because Pete was a sheep rather than a 'proper' sheepdog. By the end of the story the other shearers are desperate to join Shaun and Pete by putting their differences aside and learning to accept their difference and focus on the fact that Shaun is an amazing shearer and Pete is great at 'rounding up' the sheep appropriately.
This particular book could be used to teach students that although someone may be different that does not mean they should be isolated or excluded. Differences make us who we are! This book would be well used with younger children within a bullying topic as it indirectly addresses the topic of bullying without using people.
